Dalada Wathura


As a result of the prohibition of exposition of the tooth relic and the perahera, there was a famine in this Darmadeepaya (Sri Lanka). To over come this plight the Maha Sanga (Buddhist monks) & people got the approval of the British, during Wesak full moon poya day in 1828.

There was an exposition of the tooth relic, there was a miracle which caused heavy rain & floods, that mode the Kandy lake over flow for the first time in history. This was known as the “Dalada Wathura”. The folklore state tha, in 1947 the kandy lake over flowed for second time after 119 years this photograph displays that moment.
